Abstract

“A Den of Vice of the Highest Order”. The Fabricated Allegations of Homosexuality Against the Servite Monastery in Innsbruck and the Resulting Dissolution of the Convent in November 1938
This paper analyzes how the National Socialist regime of the Gau Tirol-Vorarlberg used accusations of homosexuality in the fight against the church and its institutions. The focus is on the dissolution of the Servite Monastery in Innsbruck to demonstrate National Socialist procedures related to this context. Hence, the sequence and motivations behind the dispossession of the monastery are discussed and, moreover, this analysis shows how the narrative of a homosexual convent was created and spread.
