Non-Aligned Women. The Non-Aligned Movement as an Alternative Space for Leftist-Feminist Exchange?
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) offered a connective platform for several countries of the Global South to coordinate their efforts and to cooperate outside of the bilateral power dynamics of the Cold War. Especially during the United Nations Decade for Women (1975–1985), the NAM held several conferences regarding women’s rights. However, this did not lead to a specific network for women within the NAM. The conferences rather underlined that women’s rights should be embedded within several other political fields instead.
