Abstract

”My belly belongs to me!” About the Influence of the ”New” Women’s Movement on the Legalisation of Abortion in Austria

This paper deals with the liberalisationof the abortion law in 1975 in the course of the updating of the penal code in Austria. It focusses on the historical attitudes to abortion in the 20th century and the role feminist figures played on the way to legalisation. Based on critical literature, the analysis will show political constellations in favour of and opposed to the liberalisation of the abortion law, offering an overview of the developments on the argumentation from 1975 until now.
