Giuseppe Mazzini and “Young Europe”. Mazzini’s Concept of Youth and the Role of Youth in His European Plan
This bachelor thesis examines Giuseppe Mazzini’s concept of youth and its role in his vision of a federal, republican “Young Europe.” It demonstrates how he fused Rousseau’s ideal of purity, Romantic motifs, and teleological history into a semantic framework that portrays youth as morally uncorrupted, energetic, and mission-driven – the sole force for European renewal. The study elucidates the layers of meaning in his concept of youth and critically analyzes inconsistencies in his reflections.
